CAESAR CRYSTAL BOHEMIAE, a.s. is a continuation of the quality glass manufacturing tradition of the Josefodol glassworks, which was established in 1861 by Viennese businessman Josef Schreiber. The factory is located in the charming valley of the Sázavka River and Zbožský Stream near the town of Světlá nad Sázavou in the Bohemian and Moravian highlands.

After the Second World War the company was nationalized by the communist occupators as a company of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. When it was privatized in 1994 it was renamed to CAESAR CRYSTAL BOHEMIAE, a.s. after the last private owners of glassworks, the Caesar brothers, to whom the present owners owe their heritage in 1995, the Minister of Industry of Czech Republic awarded the company, as the very first glass firm, the CZECH MADE brand. A prestigious recognition of the quality of our manufactured products.

The Josefodol glassworks produces hand blown and cut 24% PbO (lead oxide) crystal glass. The combination of old proven tradition with purely modern designs by our renowned artists (mainly by Zdeněk Kunst and Stanislav Machek) and by outside artists (e.g. Švarc, Exnar, Janák), we have created an exceptionally noble crystal beauty, typical for its place of origin.

The cased crystal – pure crystal base of the product which is covered by a layer of coloured crystal during production at a high temperature (around 800°C). During the cutting process, this coloured layer is cut by an industrial diamond blade on a cutting wheel which creates the unique effect of design by contrasting the coloured crystal, clear crystal and light.
